The daughter of a dying South African woman who has been told to leave New Zealand by the end of August says all her mother wants is to spend what time she has left with family.
Elizabeth Liebenberg was diagnosed with a lung disease last year while her residency application was being processed.
Her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Welgens, says Immigration New Zealand declined the application because Mrs Leibenberg required expensive heart surgery.
Mrs Welgens says her mother's situation has since deteriorated and she can no longer have the surgery, but she says it is unlikely an appeal against Immigration New Zealand's decision will be dealt with before her visa expires.
She says Mrs Leibenberg has appealed against Immigration New Zealand's decision, but was told the agency is dealing with applications dating back to May last year.
She says her mother has been granted an additional three month visa on medical grounds.
Immigration New Zealand has declined to comment.
