Leaking boat spills diesel in Napier Harbour

8:52 pm on 7 September 2012

A leaking fishing vessel has spilled a large amount of diesel into the Napier Harbour.

A police spokesperson says emergency services were called to the scene about 6pm on Friday and closed West Quay Road to traffic as a cordon was set up around the boat

The spokesperson says about 1500 litres of diesel has flowed into water near the Napier Sailing Club.

Fire crews have investigated and say there is no fire risk at this stage.

West Quay Road has since been reopened and police say the matter has been handed over to the Hawke's Bay Regional Council.
