Police investigating suspicious death in Lower Hutt

A police investigation has been launched after a man died at a Lower Hutt property.

The 52-year-old local man was found unconscious in a driveway in the suburb of Pomare about 10pm on Thursday.

The body remains in the driveway of the Farmer Crescent house covered by a large white tent. Fresh tyre marks lead under the tent, but it is not clear what happened.

Police say a friend found the man in the driveway on Thursday night and attempted to resuscitate him, but was unsuccessful.

Neighbours told a Radio New Zealand reporter at the scene that the house is one of about six in the area known to have connections to the Mongrel Mob.

One man says he saw fire engines and police at the property on Thursday night, but is shocked to learn tbeen a death.
