Auckland Council decides region-wide policy on dog laws

9:14 am on 25 November 2012

Auckland Council has come up with a new policy on dog laws after considering more than 10,000 submissions.

The council's hearings panel chair, Noelene Raffills, says it was clear Auckland needs regional consistency in its dog laws.

Mrs Raffills says where appropriate the council has come up with region-wide rules.

Local boards will make decisions about dog access to parks and beaches, but the seasons for beach access will be standardised throughout the region.

She says rules on roads, footpaths and playgrounds will also apply across the city.

The new policy and bylaws on dogs will come into effect from July next year.
