A 49-year-old man convicted in September of threatening to kill two police officers in central Hawke's Bay has been sentenced to home detention.
David Andrew Taite, 49, was shot by an officer during the altercation and is paralysed from the waist down.
In October 2011, police looking for Mr Taite in relation to two aggravated burglaries and attempting to ram a police car stopped a vehicle on State Highway 2 near the township of Otane.
Taite, who was a passenger in the car, got out and told the officers he had a gun and was going to shoot them. A constable identified only as P shot and injured Taite.
Judge Brooke Gibson on Tuesday sentenced Taite to nine months' home detention and disqualified him from driving for six months.
In sentencing at Napier District Court, Judge Gibson acknowledged the prisoner's personal circumstances and that his life has been changed for ever as a result of his injuries.
