A search for a missing tramper in the Mt Owen area of Kahurangi National Park will resume on Wednesday.
Alistair Levy, 54, from Palmerston North, was due back on Monday.
A helicopter search on Tuesday failed to find him and a ground search is to be made of the area.
Mr Levy sent a text message on Sunday saying he had reached the summit of Mt Owen, but nothing has been heard from him since.
His blue Toyota Estima remains parked at Courthouse Flat near the start of a walking track.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen Mr Levy to contact them urgently. He was carrying a purple and black backpack.
