Dunedin police say they tasered a man to stop him seriously harming himself.
They say they were called on Monday night to a house in High Street in the inner city, where a 46-year-old man had barricaded himself in a room and was threatening to harm himself with a knife.
Police say they could not convince the man to come out of the room so used a Taser to immobilise him.
He is now in psychiatric care at Dunedin Hospital.
