A section of flood-damaged road leading to a key Westland bridge has reopened after being closed for more than a month.
Heavy flooding washed out the Wanganui River approach on State Highway 6 on 2 January, forcing motorists to take aeight-hour detour through Wanaka.
The bridge reopened on Thursday, six days ahead of schedule.
Ferguson Brothers general manager Brendon Russ says subcontractors sourced from local mines worked 16 hours a day on the damaged road.
He says the flood-damaged Whatoroa Deviation Road and Kelly's Creek Bridge on State Highway 73 have also been repaired.
