Kapiti Coast District Council is confident the $21 million Coastlands aquatic centre project will be completed.

Work on the site was suspended when Mainzeal went into receivership on Wednesday.

KCDC chief executive, Pat Dougherty said the council has given the receivers an assurance that it will pay for work done since they took charge.

He said on that basis, the receivers are going to talk directly with the sub-contractors with the aim of getting them back on site.

Mr Dougherty said the council's payments lag behind actual construction and the council thinks it will be able to stay within its original budget.
