Christchurch scrub fire under control

The blaze on Summit Road in Christchurch has been brought under control.

The fire on Sugarloaf hill has burnt six to eight hectares of vegetation and spread smoke across the Port Hills and surrounding suburbs.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known however a fire investigator is due at the scene over the next few days.

Rural fire fighters are continuing to monitor the fire overnight on Saturday.
