Wellington water use at record low

12:19 pm on 31 March 2013

Wellington has had the lowest one-day water usage rate since records began in 1997.

On Saturday, the region consumed 106 million litres of water - 24 million litres lower than the daily target.

The Wellington Regional Council is thanking people for their continuing efforts to conserve water in drought conditions.

Showers are forecast for Sunday and Wednesday, but the council says significant rainfall is needed before water restrictions can be eased.

A ban on outdoor water use remains in place.
