Oil firm continues work in Taranaki

A Canadian energy company says it will not stop drilling for oil and gas near Dannevirke, despite opposition from some locals.

More than 100 protesters marched through Dannevirke's main street on Wednesday to oppose Tag Oil's drilling at a site 19 kilometres from the town.

Tag Oil chief operating officer Drew Cadenhead says it will be drilling for the next three weeks, and will spend six months analysing the data before deciding whether it will go back to the area.

Mr Cadenhead says tens of thousands of people support the project and realise the value it will bring to the East Coast.
