Two people are in hospital after a fire at a house in the Southland town of Gore.
Fire crews were called to the property in Toronto Street about 5am on Monday.
One occupant is being treated for smoke inhalation and emergency services say the second person is in a serious condition.
At its peak, 24 firefighters were needed to bring the fire under control.
