Man burned in Anzac Day assault dies

A man who was severely burned in an assault in Christchurch on Anzac Day has died of his injuries.

Terrance Smith, 55, died in Middlemore hospital in Auckland on Wednesday night.

He was severely burned in an attack at a house in the suburb of Woolston on 25 April and was flown to Auckland for specialist treatment the next day, but his condition did not improve.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Sweeney said charges may be laid against Jason Barr and Shay Webster, who were previously charged with grievous bodily harm.
