Police have boosted the number of search and rescue teams looking for a man missing in the King Country.
Les Wright from the West Coast had been staying in a campground in Te Kuiti, but has not been seen since he left for a day trip on Monday.
Police on Thursday searched the Pureora Forest area, west of Benneydale, where a meter reader found his car on Wednesday night and also searched the area by helicopter.
Police say the area is flat and the canopy very thick, making it easy for people to become disorientated.
The search team would be boosted to 50 overnight on Thursday, with staff from Taupo and Hamilton joining police and volunteers.
