Complaint to be lodged over care of dying woman

A Taumarunui man convicted of attempting to murder his terminally ill mother is to complain to the Health & Disability Commissioner about the care she received.

In February last year, Ian Crutchley administered an increased dose of morphine to his mother who was suffering from stomach cancer. She died a few hours later.

Crutchley says his mother, 77, did not see a doctor in the last two weeks of her life.

He says the Waikato District Health Board's palliative care unit should have been in touch with his family to assess the situation.

Crutchley says his lawyers and two sisters will lodge three separate complaints with the Health and Disability Commissioner on Tuesday.
