Waste water treatment complaints dismissed

Complaints by the Green Party aimed at the Horowhenua District Council over its management of a waste water treatment plant have been dismissed as political point scoring.

The party claims sewage ponds have overflowed at the Lake Horowhenua treatment plant and sewage is spilling into the lake.

However, district council chief executive, David Ward says there has been no spillage.

He says the district has probably recorded its highest-ever ground water levels which is impacting on the plant.

Mr Ward says the council has provided additional treated effluent storage paddocks and had experts inspecting bunding around the walls.
