Anti-crime march

9:49 am on 25 August 2008

A small group marched through the Takapuna shopping centre on Saturday in protest against crime.

About 50 people were there to ask politicians to toughen laws on crime.

The organisers say the march was prompted by the recent violent crimes in South Auckland and last month's abduction of five-year-old Cina Ma.

The Asian Anti Crime Group says the government is good-for-nothing because it hasn't improved the situation in South Auckland.

A spokesperson for the Asian Anti-crime Group, Peter Low, who was at the march, says there are many people like him who feel frustrated and angry.

"If the government doesn't do something, it will end up like South Africa, it will end up like Indonesia or the Philippines.

"The Government's got to to something."

Peter Low says politicians need to solve the problems, rather than talking about how to win votes.

March organiser Max Whitehead says things are so bad he does not feel it is safe for his young daughter to play on her own.

He says the community has had enough, and politicians are not taking their concerns seriously.
