A high-profile Christchurch property developer intends to go ahead with his plans for the city's entertainment precinct despite criticism from a group of professionals.

Antony Gough has pledged to spend $140 million developing a food and beverage hub along Oxford Terrace, beside the Avon river.

The Urban Design Panel comprised of 17 architects has released a report on the plans saying they lack continuity.

However Mr Gough has rejected the criticisms and says the panel needs to be prepared to accept change.

He says he is going to go ahead with his designs as planned and expects the first bar to be operating by October next year.
