Boom time in Selwyn

Selwyn District Council issued 2390 building consents in the year to June - an increase of 24% over the previous year.

The district is experiencing a population and building boom following the Canterbury earthquakes.

During the past year, council staff carried out more than 12000 building inspections and registered more than 11,000 dogs.

Also 580 food, liquor and health licences were issued - up 30% over the number issued five years ago.

The number of resource consent applications processed also increased by 44% over the previous year.
