Christchurch City Council is committed to reinvigorating the Ellerslie International Flower Show, after this year's event lost $325,000.

A report detailing the economic impact the show brings to Christchurch shows that in addition to losing money, more than half of those who attended this year's event said it failed to meet their expectations.

The annual show, which moved from Auckland to Christchurch in 2009, generated direct spending of $8.97 million in the city, a drop of 39% on last year.

Recommendations will be considered by the council next week, including moving the show forward by a week and introducing an advisory group of horticultural experts to provide advice to the organisers.
