A $1.8 million energy fund has been established in a bid to reduce carbon emissions during Christchurch's rebuild.

The fund has been established by the charitable trust, Christchurch Agency for Energy.

Developers of buildings inside the four avenues can apply for help to meet the cost of technology that uses renewable sources of energy.

Christchurch City Council's resource efficiency programme manager, Kevin Crutchley, says the fund will make it more affordable for major developments to use renewable energy.
