A 70-year-old man who fell up to nine metres through a warehouse roof in Tauranga has died.

The worker suffered serious head injuries when he fell at the Ballance Agri-Nutrients fertiliser storage warehouse about 11pm on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the health and safety group at the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment says investigators were at the site on Hewletts Road on Friday morning.

Inspector Steve Kose says the man was taken to Tauranga Hospital on Thursday night in a critical condition.

Mr Kose says the man is believed to be a truck driver who was delivering fertiliser.
