Wellington election issues

11:50 am on 30 September 2013

Wellington's relationship with central Government is one of the many issues voters and council candidates have been considering during the elections this month.

Mayoral candidate John Morrison says there is no relationship with central Government and that needs to change.

Nicola Young, another candidate, agrees with Mr Morrison, and says lack of decisiveness around the council table has also been an issue.

She says to create unity, teams needs to be built within council, despite people having different political perspectives.

Ms Young says it is important to make sure everyone is trying to make Wellington move forward.

A Residents Satisfaction Survey commissioned by the council showed 31% think the council makes decisions in the city's best interests. That is down from 55% last year and 61% in 2011.

However, Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says there were some technical reasons for the drop in numbers this year and ratepayers are generally happy.
