Dangerous driving charge against police officer dropped

A charge of driving dangerously against a police officer has been dropped because it took too long to get to trial.

Michael Bruce Carter, 41, was charged following a police pursuit in Auckland, on Moire Road in Massey in October 2011.

He was accused of driving a police vehicle in a manner that may have been dangerous to a person or the public.

Mr Carter first appeared in court in April last year and was due to appear in the Waitakere District Court on Friday.

But the defended hearing didn't take place because of time constraints.

Judge Josephine Bouchier dismissed the charges, blaming a systemic delay within the court system.
