The Anglican Bishop of Auckland has welcomed the Human Rights Tribunal's dismissal of a complaint against the Church over its decision to deny a gay man entry to the priesthood.
The tribunal had been considering whether the Auckland man, Geno Sisneros, was discriminated against when his application to train as a priest was turned down.
The tribunal found Auckland Bishop, Ross Bay, did not breach the Human Rights Act and acted within the Anglican Church's ordination rules.
Bishop Ross says the decision has balanced individual human rights with the autonomous nature of the Church, in a way that ensures freedom of religion.
