Name suppression is to continue for a woman charged with the attempted murder of her partner in Hamilton last weekend.

The 43-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck and then run over by a car outside a shop in the suburb of Melville on Sunday.

A short time later, the woman's car went over a 10-metre bank into the Waikato River, but she was rescued.

A 44-year-old woman reappeared in the High Court in Hamilton on Friday.

The judge ordered a mental health assessment and suppressed his reasons for continuing to ban the release of her name.

Police say the victim is in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital and has been formally interviewed.
