Police have named a forestry worker killed in an accident in the Bay of Plenty.

David Beamsley, 63, from Murupara, died after after a tree-felling incident in the Kaingaroa Forest, off Tangiharuru Road in the Bay of Plenty, at about 5.15pm on Tuesday.

The police say there's nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances.

Occupational Safety and Health is investigating and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

Despite the launch of a revised forest industry safety code, there have been seven fatalities and more than 80 serious injuries among forestry workers this year.

The Forest Industry Engineering Association is canvassing the issue with a safety summit at a conference in Rotorua, which finishes on Wednesday.
