Visitor restrictions at Gisborne hospital lifted

Tairawhiti District Health has lifted visiting restrictions at Gisborne hospital after an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea there.

Medical Officer of Health Bruce Duncan said no new cases have occurred in the hospital since Saturday.

Eleven patients last week experienced symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Dr Duncan said laboratory tests suggest Sapovirus is the likely organism that caused the outbreak.

An infection control team met on Tuesday morning and agreed restrictions to visitors should be lifted and that the hospital return to business as usual.
