Privacy breach by council parking contractor

Wellington City Council has revealed details of a privacy breach by its parking services contractor, involving the release of personal information of people issued with tickets.

A member of the public requested information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act relating to parking enforcement by Tenix Solutions.

Without notifying the council, Tenix Solutions sent him spreadsheets with information relating to about 120,000 tickets issued to individuals and businesses.

The information included vehicle number plates, names of registered vehicle owners and their contact addresses.

Council chief executive, Kevin Lavery said the recipient the council about the breach on 19 November and he returned the information.

Mr Lavery described the performance of Tenix Solutions as woeful and said there will be a full review.
