A man has been arrested after another man was hit over the head with a spade during an argument in Nelson city centre.
The incident happened on New Street, in the early hours of Friday morning. The victim has been released from hospital after being treated for a large cut to his head.
A 34-year old Nelson man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and theft. He will appear in the Nelson District Court in January.
