Police operation on Auckland train network

5:23 pm on 11 January 2014

The planned operations come after a man was arrested on Thursday for exposing himself to young women on a train following a combined effort by the police and Auckland's rail network operator, Transdev.

Senior Sergeant David Hines says passengers have also told them about seeing shoplifters inspecting their stolen goods on trains. He says the partnership with Transdev will continue, with further operations targeting antisocial behaviour.

Mr Hines says there have also been assaults on the trains from time to time and often when ticketing staff confront people who are abusing the ticketing system they are threatened or assaulted.

He says the measures will involve more officers riding trains, and more plain-clothes police operations.
