Gisborne water emergency over

1:56 pm on 14 January 2014

Gisborne District Council says the water emergency is over but a ban on using hoses remains.

The main water pipeline supplying water to the city Water Treatment plant split seven days ago after a landslide.

The council is confident there is enough water to keep up with demand from processing industries as they increase production.

It says there is no need for people to carry on with severe conservation methods and residents can now regularly flush their toilets and start using washing machines and dishwashers, but gardens should be given only a quick drink using a watering can.

The ban on the use of hoses will be reviewed next week.
