About a dozen police officers are combing the Auckland suburb of Mount Wellington for a man armed with a handgun.
They say the man ran off after threatening two officers with the gun when they stopped to speak with him on Ruawai Road about 6.30pm on Monday.
He is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, about 180 centimetres tall, with short hair. He was wearing a black fleece jacket, black trousers and sneakers.
Police say cordons are in place. Anyone who sees the man should not approach, him but call 111.
