A man seriously injured in a suspected methamphetamine laboratory explosion in Northland remains in a stable condition at Middlemore Hospital.
The 29-year-old was moved to the hospital for specialist treatment after suffering burns in a series of blasts at a rural property in Pakotai, north-east of Whangerei, at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
Police say a 49 year-old man also injured at the property died on Thursday afternoon. His name will be released when all of his family have been told.
Police say officers, ESR and Fire Safety staff have been examining the scene to establish the exact cause of the explosion.
Emergency service personnel and neighbours have been decontaminated and the scene was guarded overnight.
