Pensioner pair attacked in home

5:58 am on 4 February 2014

Police say an attack on a pensioner and his wife in their Lower Hutt home was unprovoked.

Francis Watene, 70, has a broken collar bone and needed stitches in his head after he confronted three men who intimidated his wife and smashed windows in their Naenae home early on Sunday morning.

Detective Ben Cornelius says the couple have given a lot to the community and have fostered hundreds of children. It's not known why they were targetted.

Police are looking for three men who left the area in a dark four-wheel drive vehicle.
