Fog disrupts flights in South Island

10:39 am on 21 February 2014

Low cloud and fog have caused disruption to some flights in the lower North Island, the upper South Island and in Canterbury Friday morning.

Fog has disrupted flights in and out of Wellington Airport in the past two days, and Friday morning is also affecting some flights in and out of Christchurch and Nelson.

Air New Zealand says flights to regional airports are affected, but its "main trunk" domestic jet services have continued as normal.

It says customers affected by weather conditions are being re-accommodated on alternative services.

It's advising anyone booked on domestic flights to check its website or ring its contact centre.

Assistants at the Virgin Australia and Jetstar check-in desks say all fog-affected passengers were rebooked by Thursday night.

MetService says the fog will not return on Friday because there isn't enough moisture in the air.
