Police are refusing to say how a 7-year-old child died in the Manuka Gorge near Dunedin.
Officers were called to a logging site in the area just after 5pm on Friday, but the incident was not related to logging.
Next-of-kin are yet to be informed. Health and Safety inspectors and police are investigating.
