Job cuts at Christchurch council

3:31 pm on 3 April 2014

The Christchurch City Council will cut 10 jobs in a bid to save $1 million over the next four years.

The changes affect staff within the Office of the Chief Executive, including governance and civic services, communications, and Civil Defence and emergency management.

The changes will affect 95 staff, but 84 of the positions will remain the same or take on a different title.

Ten positions will be disestablished (of those, three were already vacant) and 11 new roles have been created.

The council's acting chief executive, Jane Parfitt, says change needs to happen so the council can cope with the $40 billion rebuild.
