The rider of a modified trike has died after a road crash at Onekawa in Napier.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of Ford Road and Carnegie Street about 4.30pm on Friday.
Police said they believe the man lost control at the intersection, clipped the curb and fell off the bike.
He was taken to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital with serious injuries and subsequently died.
Police are now working to notify his next of kin.
The road has reopened after heavy equipment was used to remove the trike.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating on behalf of the Coroner and police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash.
They say speed, alcohol and driving behaviour will be a focus of their inquiry.
