Two from bus crash still in hospital

Two students remain in hospital following a bus crash near Morere, Gisborne, on Sunday.

Thirty-six students and staff from Turakina Maori Girls College were on board the bus when it crashed on Wharerate Road, on State Highway 2, about 3.30pm on Sunday.

They were on their way to the National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka competition.

Fifteen people - 12 of them students - were taken to hospital and most were released on Sunday night.

Three adults, including the 54-year old male bus driver, were admitted with cuts and bruises, but have since been discharged.

Tairawhiti District Health says the 14-year old student who was in hospital overnight has broken bones, but she will be discharged soon.

Another student, who is 13-years old was admitted after the initial party last night for observation, and is still in hospital.
