Heavy rain and severe gales are on the way for much of the North Island and some parts of the south.
MetService said a heavy rain warning is in place for the North Island high country from Tongariro National Park to Taranaki Saturday and Sunday.
Heavy rain is also forecast for Westland south of Otira and the Canterbury and Otago headwaters.
A warning for severe gales is in force for Canterbury, Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa from Saturday afternoon.
