Fire damaged school open next week

7:14 pm on 13 August 2014

A Kapiti Coast school that lost almost half its classrooms in a fire will reopen next Wednesday.

Three teenagers are facing arson charges in relation to the blaze at the Paraparaumu primary school in Ruapehu Street on 9 August.

As well as the classrooms, the library was destroyed, leaving the school with five classrooms, a hall and an administration block.

Ministry of Education spokesperson Katrina Casey says demolition of the destroyed classroom block will be completed by Friday.

Ms Casey said the neighbouring school has offered four teaching spaces that can be used until temporary classrooms are brought on to the site.

They will be there by the time term four starts on 13 October.

The police and fire service are treating the fire at Paraparaumu School as suspicious.
