A drunken hunter had to be rescued by helicopter early this morning after wandering from his hut in the Mount Dasher area near Oamaru.
Police said the 22-year-old, who was part of a hunting group, left a hut wearing only light clothing and no footwear in near freezing conditions.
When the man failed to return to the hut at about 3.45 am the hunting group called police and a Search and Rescue team and helicopter were deployed at first light.
The man was found at about 7am and did not require treatment.
