Police say the cause of a fatal boat fire on Waiheke Island is still unknown and the investigation is continuing.
David Brady, 67, died and another man suffered serious injuries in a boat fire in Ostend on Monday night.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard said reports that the Fire Service believed the fire was not suspicious were incorrect.
He said he was yet to see the fire investigators' final report and police were still making inquiries.
Mr Beard said they were also waiting on the results of toxicology tests and other forensic reports.
Fire Service investigators were unavailable for comment.
