Police say a 74-year-old man in Northland has died after an accident involving a firearm.
Emergency services were called to an address in Mahuta south of Dargaville at 4.30pm this afternoon.
The Northern Communications' Shift Commander, Inspector Tony Wakelin, said the man's wife was at home at the time of the accident and was very distressed.
