Gastro outbreak at student hall over

7:31 pm on 5 April 2015

Health chiefs are confident a gastro-enteritis outbreak that left 168 Auckland University students with diarrhoea and vomiting is over.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service said the outbreak of gastro-enteritis saw 12 students treated in the Auckland City Hospital's emergency department.

They required intravenous fluids and medication over a few hours, while other symptoms included nausea, stomach cramps, headaches, and chills.

But the service said the outbreak appeared to be resolving itself as the last notified case was on Friday.

The outbreak happened at the 442-bed University hall of residence, while some additional cases have been reported from Grafton, Whitaker Halls, and the student apartments.
