5:00 pm on 28 May 2015

Plans to implode the former Christchurch Police Station in the central city have been delayed due to a machinery breakdown.

The building was due to be imploded on Saturday morning but will now take place on Sunday evening.

The Christchurch marathon is due to be held on Sunday, and organisers in recent weeks had reassured runners that they would be safe if the implosion happened on the same day.

Residents are being urged to watch the implosion at home via live streaming, and not venture into the city.
