A man who was trapped after a trench collapsed at a South Auckland construction site has been freed.

The man, in his 20s, was seriously injured when he became trapped in the ground at the site in the suburb of Flat Bush.
Fire crews used heavy digging equipment and hand tools during the operation to free him, while paramedics kept him stable.
The Fire Service, which was called to the site by ambulance staff just before 4pm, said the man had both feet trapped in the ground.
St John said he had been taken to Middlemore Hospital and remained in a serious condition.
