The man who died after being hit by a car in Oamaru yesterday has been named as 67-year-old Gerald James Cowley.
A police spokesperson said the crash happened on the corner of Eden and Thames streets in the city centre at about 11.30am yesterday, with a car going up on to the pavement and hitting three pedestrians. It then continued back on to Thames Street, where it was struck by two vehicles.
Mr Cowley, from nearby Waikouaiti, died at the scene.
A 70 year-old woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital with multiple injuries, while a 13-year-old girl and the three drivers involved were taken to Oamaru Hospital.
Police were investigating the incident, the spokesperson said.
